Are you eligible for a boiler grant?

What is the Government Boiler Scheme?

The Government is obliged to reduce the country’s carbon emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. A fundamental way to tackle this issue is to replace inefficient boilers in people’s homes with modern, A-rated ones.

In addition, new boilers are much more cost-effective, meaning they can help reduce residents’ energy bills, which is particularly important during the current energy crisis when many people cannot afford to heat their homes adequately.

As a solution to the above needs, the Government requires energy companies to fund the installation of boilers in low-income homes or for the most vulnerable. The present scheme runs until 2026.

How does a boiler grant work?

Boiler grants are available via the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme; they’re designed to help households reduce the cost of their heating and make homes more carbon efficient. Unlike a loan, the grant does not have to be paid back, and there are no hidden catches. If you qualify for a boiler grant, you can have one installed, along with new heating controls, at a fraction of the regular cost or for free.

grant funding

How much will my boiler grant be?

The funding you receive depends on how energy efficient your home is. Before applying for the grant, a heating engineer or surveyor will visit your property to carry out an energy assessment, and from there we can determine how much the grant will cover. In some cases, you may have to make a small contribution.

Who qualifies for a boiler grant?

Gas, oil and LPG boilers can be replaced with grant funding, but in order to qualify, your boiler must be inefficient which is usually at least ten years old and your home must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D,E, F or G for efficiency.

In addition, you must receive one or a combination of income-related benefits, such as:

  •  Job Seekers Allowance
  •  Universal Credit
  •  Working Tax Credits
  •  Disability benefits such as PIP or DLA
  •  Pension Credit
  •  Employment and Support Allowance
  •  Child Tax Credits
  •  Child Benefit (with a qualifying household income)

The above list is not exhaustive, and a combination is required to qualify for some benefits. For example, pensioners and single parents can apply for the grant, landlords and private tenants can now apply under the latest scheme. To find out if you can receive help from Government boiler funding, get in touch with the team at Aura Heating today, and we’ll arrange a visit to your home to assess its energy efficiency.

Which energy companies fund the ECO scheme?

Some of the biggest suppliers fund the ECO scheme, including

  • British Gas
  • EON
  • EDF
  • Octopus
  • OVO
  • Bulb
  • Scottish Power

What is ECO4 Flex?

If you are living in a fuel-poor household but do not receive benefits, you may be able to access grant funding through the ECO4 Flex scheme via your Local Authority. Participating Local Authorities can refer private tenure households to the scheme if they consider them to be living in fuel poverty or vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold environment.

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Aside from the ECO scheme, one of the most popular Government boiler schemes is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This enables eligible households to replace their gas, oil or LPG boiler with an air-source heat pump or ground-source heat pump. These are low-carbon appliances that deliver much higher energy efficiency than boilers. You can learn more about the scheme on our website or by contacting our team.

Why choose Aura Heating?

You don’t have to access boiler grants through the energy company that you’re with. Instead, you can get ECO support from any obligated supplier, and at Aura Heating, we’re here to help.

With more than ten years’ of experience in the grant-funded sector, we know exactly what’s required to get you a boiler grant. One of our surveyors or heating engineers will visit your home to assess its energy efficiency and determine your eligibility for a grant. The grant itself wholly or partially covers the boiler cost and installation fee; you do not get a free boiler as well as a grant. In addition, you must receive one of the qualifying benefits to be eligible for the grant. Contact our team today to find out if you can apply.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to choose the boiler you have installed with your grant. At Aura Heating, we install only the best appliances from brands we know and trust.

Yes. Warranties typically span 2-7 years; your engineer will provide details of your warranty when they have installed the boiler. In order to maintain a boiler warranty it needs to be serviced and we have a number of options.
