We’re often asked by customers if there is grant funding available for the installation of their air source heat pump, boiler, or insulation. In many cases, the answer is yes. With over a decade of experience in the grant-funded sector, we at Aura Heating can confirm whether you are eligible for financial help with your heating needs.
Below we have outlined all the schemes available to help heat your home or ensure it’s energy efficient.
At Aura Heating, we’ve worked in the grant-funded sector for over a decade. Our heating engineers know which grants are available at any time and can confirm which you are eligible for. We believe in helping everyone to enjoy properly heated housing and will ensure you save as much as possible on your insulation, boiler or air-source heat pump installation.
As Gas Safe and MCS Certified engineers, we will install your boiler or heat pump to the highest standards, ensuring your system’s complete safety and functionality. We also offer home care packages, which enable you to spread the cost of your servicing, repairs and more with affordable monthly payments.
Finally, when you invite us to install or service your boiler or heat pump, we’ll deliver a friendly, professional service. Our heating engineers are meticulous in their work and will tidy up after themselves so you can go about your day without additional hassle.
Grants are underpinned by a ”whole house approach” to insulating a property. In line with PAS2035 requirements, a number of pre-conditions are needed to ensure a positive impact on a property’s energy rating when an energy-saving measure is installed with grant funding. This means that you might, for example, be advised to install cavity, loft or wall insulation before having a heat pump fitted with the benefit of grant funding.
Improving the heat loss of a property reduces the heating demand and allows for a smaller boiler or heat pump to be installed. This will be reflected in your property’s overall energy performance certificate (EPC) rating and keep your energy costs to a minimum.
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO), introduced in 2013, is the main driver behind the legislation set out by the central government, evolving into ECO 4 in April 2022 and will run until 2026 alongside other schemes, including the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme and the Home upgrade Grant (HUG) scheme.
The retrofit market is the biggest market for heating properties in the UK. It is a common misconception that an air source heat pump will not work in older houses. However, most homes can be fitted with one. Of course, it is important to take steps to reduce the heat loss of a property before booking an installation.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is available to all property owners who want to apply for air-source heat pump grant funding, irrespective of income.
The grant covers £5,000 of the total cost of the work and is claimed directly by us, so there’s no need for you to submit an application. You may, however, need to install insulation in your home before you become eligible for the funding.
The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) is available to eligible households in England. It enables those off the main gas grid, on a low income, and with an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D to G to have a heat pump installed. The HUG must be applied for through your local council.
The final option is the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme, which enables those who are living in low-income households with an EPC rating or D to G to offset the costs of having an air source heat pump installed. You may be able to get up to 100% grant funding by applying for this scheme through your local council.
The Aura Heating team can conduct a site survey to help you determine whether you’re eligible for funding. We can also advise on the application process.
Several boiler grants are available throughout the year for straightforward gas boiler replacements. These are open to occupiers who meet the criteria and are fully-funded to provide the household with adequate heating. Such schemes are classed as Emergency Boiler Repair or Replacement schemes.
To get a grant for a gas boiler, you must have had a gas connection installed before 31st March 2022. Even if that only fed a gas fire or an old water heater, the property would be deemed eligible under the scheme.
Replacing old-fashioned warm air central heating with a radiator scheme is now possible under grant schemes. Previously, Warm Air Heating was deemed as ”central heating,” but now we can remove and replace it with a traditional radiator system. We typically install a combi boiler and radiators with the necessary pipework to heat the property.
In November 2022, an ECO Government Grant was introduced to help hundreds of thousands of homes across the UK receive new insulation. The ECO+ scheme supports vulnerable households, those in the least energy-efficient homes with an EPC rating of D or below, and those in the lower Council tax bands.
Other government insulation grants include the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) and Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme. These are open to households on a low income, where the property has an EPC rating of D to G. Funding covers the installation of wall, loft, roof and underfloor insulation, as well as hot water tank insulation.
